What is Patreon?

Patreon is a platform that makes it easy to pay authors and other creators for their work.

Why am I on Patreon?

Thanks to the support of my amazing readers, I get to write books for a living. Not many writers get to say that. Indie authors like me are always hustling to put out more books and connect with readers, but the publishing world is changing constantly and authors are at the mercy of retail giants like Amazon.

1. Patreon puts more money in my pocket. As an indie author, I keep 35-70% of the list price for my digital titles and make less than half a cent for each page read in Kindle Unlimited.

Patreon allows me to keep 92% of what I make.

 2. Patreon means more consistent income. Writing is how I make my living, and I have a mortgage to pay like everyone else. Book sales on Amazon fluctuate constantly, and creating more consistent income makes it much more likely that I will be able to keep writing books.

 3. Patreon allows me to share more stories. Currently, there isn't a profitable way to sell short stories on Amazon. And if there's a novel I want to write but can't sell, it often doesn't get published. By supporting me on Patreon, you can fund stories that wouldn't otherwise see the light of day.

4. Patreon means owning your books forever. You know that feeling when you go to watch your favorite show on Netflix only to find it's been removed? You should never feel that way about your favorite books.

When you purchase an e-book on Amazon, you don't own it at all. You're just purchasing a license to view that book. Buying my books directly through Patreon means you'll own them forever in any format you choose.

5. Patreon means you don't have to read on Kindle. Our society is moving toward a subscription model, which means many of my readers have enrolled in Kindle Unlimited. I like making my books available in the program, but this means I must be exclusive to Amazon. I don't want to leave Nook, Apple, and Google readers behind, so I'm making new releases available through Patreon first.
