Book Two of Lawless Is on Its Way!

Hey friends!

Can you believe it’s been more than two months since Lawless was published? It feels like December and January flew by — probably because I’ve been hard at work on book two AND deep in the excitement of my first Colorado winter. (If you just want an update on the book, feel free to skip ahead to the end of this post.)

A Little Life Update

So far 2017 has been anything but uneventful. I’m getting my first season of snowboarding under my belt — falling lots — and learning to play the ukulele. I bought myself one as a Lawless-Is-Published present to myself, and it’s brought me lots of joy. I’ve always been a crappy meditator, but playing my uke really calms me down.

I firmly believe that part of being a writer — or being human, for that matter — is filling your life with lots of new experiences. The places I go and the things I do often find their way into my books. In fact, there’s a character in book two who plays the ukulele.

I’ve also been grieving the loss of my beloved kitty, Oliver, who was hit by a car in our neighborhood. Oliver was my first inside/outside cat because he spent the first few months of his life outdoors and craved adventure and excitement. It was a beautiful Colorado day when he died, and although I don’t regret the freedom he had, he’ll be my last outside cat as long as we live in the city.

Just last week, we decided to add a new furry friend to our family. We adopted a beautiful, energetic 6-month-old cat named Jasper. He is freakishly similar to Oliver in looks and behavior, only Luna, our dog, is a little terrified of him. We think she believes him to be a spy disguised as Oliver and is trying to warn us. Still I’m confident that they’ll become buddies with a little time.

And yes, I’ve been writing…

It’s a very writerly thing to ramble on and on about my cats, but I know you guys really care about where I’m at with Lawless, book two. Many of you have already been in touch to tell me you enjoyed the first book and are ready for the next one.

Well, I’m happy to report that I have finished the first draft and will complete my initial round of edits this week! Book two is shaping up quite nicely. It’s full of adventure, awesome new characters, and much more information on the world in which the book takes place. I know I left you with a DOOZY of a cliffhanger, but I promise the payoff will be extraordinary.

I do have a confession to make: I’m not sure if three books will be enough to tell this story. As some of you might know, I try to plan out a series in its entirety before I start writing, but book two took a big departure from my original outline. Sometimes that just happens during the creative process, but it was definitely unexpected. I don’t know yet how many books will be in the series, but I’ll have a much better idea once I’m done with book two. In any case, I hope you’ll stick with me for the entire adventure. It’s gonna be a good one.

If you read Lawless, please head over to Amazon and Goodreads and leave a review. Reviews really help me out when I’m pitching the book to audio companies and when readers are looking for new authors to try. Plus, I really appreciate them.

Happy reading! Talk soon.
